The fritos pie is awesome! Great people working there!
Stopped here while on our way to a wedding. My husband can't have gluten and this place was amazingly helpful. They said the only gluten was in the pudding and the bread. We had the marbled brisket, sausage, ribs, and both sauces . Eveything was delicious and cooked perfectly. I would recommend this place to all celiac/gluten sensitive people as a place to eat and not feel sick after.
MoreBest brisket I have had in a while. Beans were good, too!
Pork was just mediocre but the brisket was great! Pinto beans were good but the green beans seemed like they might have been from a can. Service wasn't bad but it wasn't stellar.
MoreI’ve been to cranky franks twice. First time I went I was served by a older gentleman who gave me a fair portion of brisket for my $. Today I was served by a younger fellow who gave me a very small portion of brisket for my $. Both times the food was delicious but today I left hungry Even after three glasses of water and two sides and two pieces of bread. So so far there are 50-50 but I will be giving them a chance to redeem themselves.
MoreWe drive from San Antonio to eat at Cranky Frank's. It's the closest thing to the BarBQue I grew up with. Make sure you go early. We were there about 1:30 and closed the place down when we finished at 2. (They serve until they run out) Enjoy great BarBQue !!!
MoreLove the BBQ here. Great group of guys. Will always be a customer when I am in town, and craving BBQ.
MoreTexas BBQ done right
Holy cow, this little hole in the wall has AMAZING food. Don't cheap out, try a little of every meat and get there early or they'll sell out. Our dogs were welcome on the covered patio outside. No frills, just good food.
MoreAmazing ribs and brisket. Everytime we drive though we make it a point to eat here
MoreJust tried Cranky's for the first time since the new owners took over....every bit as tasty as it has always been! Same tasty BBQ and friendly service. The food was great and the place was spic-and-span clean:-)
MoreQuaint little joint right outside downtown Fredericksburg. Get the all- you-can-eat sides special. Better price. They're open until the meat runs out and they had run out of baked 🥔. 😒 Flavorful food though.
MoreGood but not great. Very very tender marbled brisket. Did not have great flavor.
MoreThis place is the best. SURE THERE ARE OTHERS IN TOWN,BUT THIS PLACE HAS PERSONALITY! ERIC AND TRACY MAKE A GREAT FIRST IMPRESSION AND THE BARBECUE SEALS THE DEAL
MoreDecent BBQ, good food, lots of sides to get full. Clean eating areas and restrooms. Service a little on the slow side. Make sure you have time to spare.
MoreBrisket and ribs had the right texture but just didn't have much flavor. Fun atmosphere and although it was crowded at 1 p.m. on a Thursday the line moved quickly.
MoreNot good at all way to much pepper
The food here has been really good each time I have come. I love the brisquet. It's always juicy with a good amount of smoke that doesn't over-power itself. I'm a little disappointed prices have went up. I really hope it's not due to rumor that the Alstadt Brewery had bought them out. In dependant places like this need to stay independent. The only thing I can say in a negative manner is, I wish there was more room inside for customers. This place gets crowded very easily, which they can't help when serving good food.
MoreSmall but good service and wonderful barbque meals at reasonable prices.
The food is still great! They guys working the counter need to step it up! No one bothered to answer the phone for a to go order to be placed. That was one thing I really liked about the other owners. They ALWAYS answered the phone and took your order and had it ready for pick up! Hire some more people and make it work!
MoreExcellent food and service. They have great bbq and sides. Worth a visit when you're in town.
MoreThis place surprised me bigger and what you think egcellent food and funny service clean tables nice restroom good parking
MoreThe food was excellent the barbecue was moist and the pudding was great.
So good. I'm glad I didn't stop at some yuppy place in town.
Great place to eat, in my opinion very fair prices with good amounts of food. Most other barbeque places are overly expensive and only give small portions
MoreTasty BBQ with counter service that is very friendly. Enjoy air conditioned indoor or shaded outdoor seating. The meat is deliciously smoked and the sides are freshly made. The German bbq sauce is interesting to try--a bit tangy and sweet.
MoreFabulous BBQ without all the fuss. Better get their when they open because they will sell out of food. It's what a BBQ restaurant should be. Feels more like a backyard gathering than a restaurant. Get yourself to Cranky Franks!
MoreThe menu was very limited when we visited for a late lunch on a Thursday in June. In fact, the "Sold Out" sign went out as we were studying the choices we wouldn't get on the menu board. Still, we were assured that they'd feed us. The sausage was much better than the chopped beef sandwich, but this is BBQ country, so all BBQ is pretty good. The dining room is like eating in the building of your local athletic association ... cinder block building with functional tables and chairs.
MoreGreat BBQ and delicious corn! Staff was friendly and the service was fast
Is this place closed for good? We LOVED their food!!
Food was good. Kids at register have that blank stare that comes from zero critical thinking skills. Say a half of brisket and after maybe 20 seconds they ask if you mean a half pound?Any place that had no sugar free options for drinks and let's their drink selection be decided by their drink vendor and not by common sense can't get above a one star since almost everyone walking in there was diabetic or close to it. Diet Dr Pepper I'd the STANDARD for every restaurant in South Texas and they didn't even have diet Pepsi.
MoreGreat atmosphere. Amazing food. And not going to break your wallet. Indoor/outdoor seating.
MoreDelicious BBQ! Best brisket I've had in a while. I got the lean brisket and it still fell apart on my fork. Barely needed a knife. Gluten free too! It gets crowded closer to noon so keep that in mind.
MoreNice folks but the barbecue left me wanting. Side dishes for plentiful with a help yourself serving. Ice-T was good.
MoreThe marbled brisket is what dreams are made of. The buns oh the buns. They could have better sides but thats not why I'm at a BBQ joint.
MoreMy BBQ ribs experience at other places has always been that the ribs were good but not as good as mine. I was always ok with that with the understanding I make Ribs 2 racks at a time and a restaurant makes them on a large scale. Well, this place blew my ribs away!!! Amazing Ribs! Best I have ever had out or made myself.
MoreThe BBQ here is no joke. They offer all you can eat sides and the cole slaw was awesome. I loved the ribs and brisket especially. They have some nice outside seating that is even covered so you can bring the pups.
MoreAwesome brisket, great taste, very lean good portion.
I had the brisket sandwich. ..very delicious. My husband had the half chicken. ..it was covered in pepper, I don't recommend the chicken, heartburn city.
MoreFriendly service and tasty meats
The food was fabulous! I will go back many more times.
Some of the best BBQ in the Hill Country. Good food, relaxing atmosphere away from the downtown shopping crowds
MoreThis place is the bomb. I love the BBQ. The meat is amazing even with no sauce. The potato salad is also really good. Get there at lunch time so you don't miss out!
MoreWe found this place accidental. GREAT barbecue. I love the owners sense of humor!See picture below I wasnt crazy about the potatoe salad it was a bit to vinegary for my taste, but my friend thought it was good
MoreGood barbecue not the best but certainly very tasty. Had the marbled brisket, sausage & ribs which I enjoyed the best. Only thing is I wish the portions for the meat were a bit more generous for the price I paid. Overall better than most bbq places in San Antonio, and it's cool the restaurant shares the same name as me!
MoreNot the same since it was soldWon't go back
Great Texas barbecue. Friendly staff. Everything was delicious. Get the ribs.
Loved the barbeque and you get plenty of sides!
Geat little gem of a bbq place. Had a stuffed potato and pork sandwich. You can watch them sliced and chop your meat when you order. Friendly and helpful staff. Meat was super tender and flavorful. Very casual and local place.
